Star's Hairdresser Used Soap Flakes

This doesn't sound pleasant and we wouldn't--probably couldn't--recommend it, however over the years, people have used Soap Flakes for all sorts of things...

Marilyn Monroe, Mae West, Judy Garland, Lana Turner, Ava Garner and many of the biggest female stars of the golden age of Hollywood sat in Alfred Pagano's chair to let him work his magic on them.

"We didn't have the chemicals they have today," the 89-year-old legendary hairdresser said Wednesday from his Valencia home.

"I used peroxide, ammonia and Lux (soap) flakes to make Harlow a platinum blonde. It was hell on her head. For Lucy, I used Hopkin's Egyptian Henna to turn her hair bright red."
